Dr. Jennifer Steele is a professor of psychology at York University and the director of the Interpersonal Perception and Social Cognition lab (http://www.yorku.ca/steeleje/research/). She completed undergraduate degrees in psychology and education at Queen’s University and received her Ph.D. in Social Psychology from Harvard University. Dr Steele’s program of research aims to increase our understanding of associations that children develop with different social groups (e.g., race, gender) and the consequences of intergroup biases for perceptions and behavior across development. She is particularly interested in both the pervasiveness and contextual nature of bias and is examining how environments can be changed to decrease children’s and adults’ biased attitudes and behaviors. Dr. Steele is also part of the Scientific Advisory Committee at Project Implicit (https://www.projectimplicit.net/). Her research has been supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) and the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI).
