Seeking Programmer for a Web-Based Simulation

We have an exciting and impactful opportunity available for a full stack developer. This is an ideal opportunity for someone with a strong interest in promoting inclusion and equity in STEM. You will help to develop and launch an interactive network simulation tool that is designed to illustrate the impact of bias and cross-group allyship in social networks, which will be used in trainings with STEM professionals. It will also be made publicly available to foster dialogue around inclusion and allyship in STEM fields. It is inspired by the Petrie Multiplier ( and the Parable of the Polygons ( 


Our goal for this 1-3 month project is to produce an interactive web tool that: 

  • Presents a visually-appealing and clear narrative on bias & allyship 
  • Allows users to customize parameters and simulate different networks and outcomes 
  • Collects and records data on unique users 


You will take our baseline set of simulations that we have visualized in PowerPoint and write code that will apply the same rules and logic to networks simulated based on user-adjustable parameters (e.g., # of people in the network, % women, impact of bias vs. allyship). 



  • You are a programmer with experience in developing interactive web-based visualizations to help program and implement this interactive tool.  
  • You have experience creating interactive web-based visualizations 
  • You have a background in data science and simulation/modeling 
  • You have a passion for science communication 

Who We Are: We are academic researchers in social psychology; we’re part of a research consortium ( focused on promoting the success and inclusion of girls and women in STEM fields.  


Location: Our research team is based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Work for this project can be completed remotely provided the applicant can video conference.
